Jyodo question
I was reading up on the Shindo Muso Ryu lineage stuff. I know the koryu guys can be super anal about legitimacy questions.
Is the Fugakukai/Kaze Uta Budo Kai line of jodo work considered legitimate in the eyes of the Japanese school?
good question --dont really know what the traditionalists think of us-- doubt its good-- Jack could probably tell you better-- I know that Ms Miyake is well respected -- so we start well but then the line drifts from her technically in fugakukai and gets to be a mixed bag (from our point of view it evolves and improves -- from theirs it probably looks like it degenerates- degrades) -- ontop of this the traditional jodo universe is very small and fragmanted from what i can tell -- some really amazing good stuff there but a bit insular ethoncentric, hard to digg out-- still tied to the koryu keepin secrets model
The attitude I've experienced in Nihon Jodokai is generally that they are interested in what they are doing, not so much what other people are. Watch, compare notes, see if there is anything interesting, but training focus is on getting what Sensei has and teaches. Plenty lifetimes to do there. Kaminoda sensei says "We don't keep people from coming, and we don't chase after them if they leave." I found myself welcome to participate, but after a few "Ahh, mite! Chigau!" when they saw big morphological changes, not much interest. Sensei did use us to teach keeping an open mind once in Kashima.
There is no legitimacy question, Kaminoda is the real line and everyone else is a branch. 😛
