I'm no expert, but as I understand, this is the companion Kenjustsu katas for our style of Jo.

Yep, that's an embu of the kenjutsu. A few stylistic differences. Very nice demonstration.

I've been reviewing this kata, along with the sword on sword violence from san kata. I've read in a variety of sources that one of the fundamental principles of Jananese sword is that you don't use the edge to block, parry or deflect the other sword, because you don't want to risk damaging the presicous cutting edge. Yet, in these katas there seems to be explicit edge-on-edge clashing.

Can anyone reconcile this apparent conflict for me?

You are correct. You don't make edge to edge contact unless it can't be avoided...what you're seeing in the video here isn't edge on edge...they edge of one sword is being blocked by the shinogi (side) of the other sword as he parries and strikes.
