I'm not a fan of grip fighting myself. Can you elaborate Omar? Do you guys normally practice grip fighting, or do you just take a normal grip with each other when working?

These guys are missing the whole meaning of judo ,they act out in an aggressive manner while judo means to practice genle way , for me i stay in the natural posture calm and relaxed with no resistance and let my oppenent do any grips, and that makes him nervous beacause he feels good control on me but he cant throw me ,i will get thrown only if i dont know a counter for his throw or lost my gentle way when i am afraid to get thrown of stronger oppenent,if he grips and pulling me down i bend my knees and i keep my back straight and if he is pulling down hard he may get thrown by changing the line (center of gravity ).sometimes i release grip but not that violent way . i am not a great champion like rhadi ferguson but i try to do judo in the right way and that will take a long time to success.

this video AT 0:32 he grips him and control him well but cant throw him due to harai counter, put ur hand on his waist and walk 1 step against his direction,he will lose balance i am not sure why but i did it and its very effective .

One of my former teachers taught very similarly to what you describe. Let your partner get his grip, then you take whatever grip is available. I believe Anton Geesink sometimes walked out with his hands up in the air, then as the partner got grips he dropped his hands into position to take grip.

It's stupid to stand there and fight for a grip. Why do I care how the guy grabs me sans a choke. I agree, it's not judo. Since I don't study for the competitive side of it...but for the martial aspect and to improve my budo overall if a guy is going to reach out and try and grab at me...well...Aikido releases come to mind...or whatever.

I love the second vid....especially at 2:27. Can that be done from a kame shiho gatame as an alternative to the traditional escape?

I suspect it could. Looks like something from Derek's playbook.
