Armbar Spin-Out from Guard: Solo Drill/Partner Application
I'm guilty of the crushing, here's a nice little counter against it.

Muy interesante. I was checking out some more of his vids on YouTube and he's got some "common mistakes" videos that are kinda nice. Plus, I found out that grapplearts.com has an iPhone app! Woot!

These are nice moves if you have the flexibility in your back or don't have back issues. I have been working on this response to getting stacked as I recuperate from my back injury and continue to train and spar lightly. The first thing I've learned if you are going to get your guard passed and you don't have the flexibility then by all means let them pass and work on getting your guard back from side mount. No reason to risk a back injury by fighting someone passing your guard and getting a vertebral disc popped out it's socket from a heavy weight crushing your spine. There are other options as well and there are sensitivity drills where one can develop the proper reaction to the beginning , the half way and almost full engagement of your leg being underhooked that allows you to keep your back from being folded and stalls the guard pass while you scramble to a better position or with a sweep end up in the mount or side control.
These options should be taught early on to everyone and especially to older grapplers as we lose our flexibility and become more prone to back injuries . I looked on the internet for examples of these drills but did not find one yet but I learned it from one of Rickson Gracie's student but he has no videos available. I would be more than willing to share this drill if anyone wants to learn it and I'm sure with the vast experiences and training of our dojo teachers most will have some tricks up their sleeves that they can teach us 😄
