October is Tomiki Ryu hakama month. It has been a year since we last issued the challenge.

C'mon you call yourself an aikidoka? You look like a damned Judo guy to me. Prove your aiki badassery through the practice of wearing a hakama. I only issue the challenge once a year so in November you can go back to looking like a slacker.


You might even try wearing it in Judo. Kano did!



( I find wearing shorts under the hakama to be far more pleasant.)

Well... since the hakama is in my bag, maybe I'll give it a try. They look very cool and make a cool whooshing noise as uke flies through the air.

I aways wear mine, normally with heels.

I find it helps keep me more centered and its great for reaction rolls when you step on the bottom of it and end up flying across the dojo. This normally happens just as I attack someone and they think they've done some cool aiki projection thing, thats thrown me.

I'm on board. Just as long as no one asks me to do any suwari waza. I'd just embarrass myself...

I don't recall seeing Kano do any newaza in hakama. Mine always rips.

Funny, and one of the first thing I thought when I first heard about Tomiki Aikido was, "Hey, those guys are cool. They're all down to earth and whatnot, doing work in Judogi instead of those silly Hakamas..." 😄
