German Wrestling Manual from 1539
My friend Dustin Reagan showed me an online translation of a 16th century German wrestling manual. It looks a lot like judo / jui jitsu / aikido. It also uses amusing language.

A lot of people don't know that the West had its own version of martial arts, except that they codified them in manuals instead of katas.
Now this is interesting... I already knew about these manuals and this one in particular. But I hadn't ever thought about it as them codifying their arts in manuals whereas the asians used kata...

speaking of codifying didnt you (pat) have a list of the aikikai names translated into tomiki terms-- could ya repost them hereabouts for me sometime? just trying not to reinvent the wheel-- thanx
