what is the function of randori?
randori brings what we learn in kata to life-- randori pushes us out of the predictable and rational into the intuitive-- if kata is like doing experiments in a more or less carefully controlled laboratory-- randori is like a proving ground where you get to take the experiment out and see how it works in the real world -- randori gives us an opportunity to condition ourselves to chaotic feedback and gradually immunize our nervous system so that we lessen our chances of locking up when faced with real chaos
