Internal power
question from a buddy on FB :On the Aikiweb forum there's people talking about IP (Internal Power) One guy named Dan Harden seems to think Aikido is lacking with this. Have you heard people talking about it? If so, how does it apply to Tomiki Aikido?Nick: It's a big subject because the language is pretty loose... Alot of the IP effects were described by mr Tomiki as isometrics and vector manipulation....This seems really accurate to me and i speculate that other parts of the IP spectrum that fall outside the isometrics and vectors explanation include manipulation of mirror neuron activity and unconscious motor reflex controls and even a bit of hypnotic induction....I think all the arts that really use and train up sensitivity to garner varying degrees of control tend toward the IP mode.... And are often described in that kind of esoteric language....different metaphors for different times and places I think... So is there actual KI in our aikido?actual bio energy subtly effecting things? I'd say certainly and furthermore it seems to do so while intersecting with skill sets involving sensitivity, mirror neuron triggering, isometrics, vectors, and possibly rapid trance induction...
