Tomiki Quote from Hakaru Mori of Daito Ryu
" As Kenji Tomiki says, most judo techniques apply force at two points and in two directions to attack the opponent where he is mechanically weak and throw him or bring him down for a pin. In Daito-ryu we apply force at a single point and in a single direction using the principle of "aiki" to attack both mechanically and physiologically weak areas.
The aiki spoken of here is a technique used to manipulate the opponent smoothly, inhibiting his conscious movement and forcing him to rely on unconscious movement driven by the instinct for self preservation. This is the most distinctive feature of Daito -ryu and the principle we strive to cultivate through constant training.
Judo uses many impressive leg and foot techniques to sweep the opponents legs from under him. Daito-ryu employs leg techniques based on a more subtle"stop, touch, and step in" method that , while not as flamboyant, is very precise and produces remarkable effects."
