Daito/ Kito Ryu in Tomiki Aikido
Travis Sayre :If you don't mind me asking, could you give me your opinion in percentages of how much each art influences Tomiki Aikido. It is a 50/50 split between Diato Ryu and Kito Ryu/Tinshin Shinyo Ryu?
Nick Lowry:
Hard for me to describe it that way...it's like most all our techniques are Daito ryu stuff but the particular way we do most all of them in terms of conceptualization, delivery of energy, initiative, and principled structure are Kito ryu approaches ... So does that make it more a 50/50 or 100/100? Looking more deeply Maybe the scale tips more toward The kito side because we include toshu randori and not many daito centric aikido forms that im aware of seem to have anything quite like it .. Also the way we organize information in kata goes toward the Kito end of the spectrum as well... Maybe it's more a 60/40 thing ..funny to try to break it down this waybecause still to me on the surface it's almost all aikido but underneath its all judo ...at the end of the day I think it's all just kuzushi... (haven't seen much ten shin Shinyo ryu influence overall)
