Sounds like tons of "fun"
I saw a picture of Brian Picklo (OKC Police Officer) executing a throw. The refs called it wrong and it appears, at this point, he'll be an alternate versus fighting for a medal. The photo clearly shows his opponent completely in the air, while Picklo has one foot on the ground. The appeals process is already underway.
Being a referee isn't an easy job, but I suspect this was more than a bad call. A practically unknown 8th seed in the tournament taking on a very high-seeded (#1 seed I believe I read) player for a shot at the Olympics... well, where's my conspiracy hat?
sadly sport judo is full of this kind of "fun" at all levels--local -regional -national etc
