Is this kata in our system?
I was wondering if this kata is in our system, or if it is just a demonstration of combined techniques this guy put together. The weapon work looked kind of cool, but I'm in to that flashy, on the cover of black belt magazine, stuff. 😄

you have a good eye for picking out one of the better technical guys from the classical ueshiba system-- saito shows some nice kuzushi skills and really stands out when compared to his peers in that system-- the weapons work you see here is called aiki-ken and aiki-jo and exists in quasi kata forms in the usehiba system -- if you are interested in learning this, saito's own work on the subject is probably the best -- i think there are dvd's around --search budovideos under the term aiki-ken or aiki-jo and saito's name -- many of the salient points of the weapons techniques are found in our san-kata and roku kata material (without the extra flash and slash stuff) tomiki obviously prefered the subtle and efficent to the flamboyant --something about maximum efficency with minimum effort perhaps
