Breaking Grip from Juji-Gatame Position
Kyle Sloan, Uke; Derek Hall, Tori; Photography & Video by Rob GoodwillTori is going for an armbar by first controlling the shoulder by "figure fouring" the arm. Uke is blocking the attempt by grabbing their opposite hand, lapel, etc...

Note: The "figure four" is made by passing the right arm through uke's curled arm and grabbing the left arm while the the left arm grips low on uke's forearm. A compression armbar is also possible from this position.
Tori begins breaking the grip by releasing the current figure four and placing their right hand on their left thigh. This allows tori to retain control and gain leverage on the target arm.

Tori should now post on the left arm.

Now raise and square the hips up with shoulders. This puts tremendous pressure on uke forcing to release his defensive grip. As soon as the grip breaks, slide the right arm up uke's arm and fall back to juji-gatame.
