Prone Turtle Turnover Using Knee Lift
Greg Ables is uke, Kellie Larsen is tori, Chris Wilson videographer.

This is an attempt to share some information from Gary Berliner’s video titled “Judo: Basic Elements of Turnovers” (GW Enterprises #0351).

We begin with Greg in a defensive turtle, lying on the ground with his hands in close to his neck. Kellie approaches from the left side, and sets two controls. For the first, Kellie uses her left hand to push down on Greg’s right shoulder which will later be the point of rotation. For the second, she grips Greg’s left leg on the inside of the knee.

Close-up of knee control. It is very important to grab at the knee, not above or below. Also, the grip should be slightly inside the knee rather than directly in the bend of the knee.

Kellie slides her right knee up onto Greg’s left hip

Kellie starts to drive with her legs, and lifts with her right hand. Her left is still pinning Greg to the mat.
