randori-my recent post at "convocation of combat arts"
Mr. Tomiki said that randori is the element that brings kata to life ("completes the picture of the dragon, by painting in the eyes...")--but in the randori of the Tomiki lineage have an inherent contradiction -- Aikido is centered around a set of a defensive/reactive making harmony skills and actions but in randori you must become offensive and proactive and make kuzushi -- this sets up some unusually fertile ground for internal turmoil-- how do you resolve it? what is randori to you?
