Higher Judo Groundwork by M. Feldenkrais (Wow!)
http://www.judoinfo.com/pdf/Higher_Judo_Ground_Work.pdfOccasionally there's something on judoinfo worth reading. This is one of those rare gems and it is fantastic. The majority of the text is some philosphical, biomechanical and theraputic material that seems targeted at Judo's use for the physical health, improvement and education of individuals.
I was really impressed with the philosopical foundation that came out right in the first chapters: the idea that Judo cares nothing for size, weight and strength, and that admitting that we all have weaknessess in some area allows us to turn them to advantage. Very cool.
The rest of the book is filled with a good selection of ne waza movements, everything from moving into a pin from a throw to passing guard to escaping kesa. The presence of leg locks, neck locks and mention of oseakomi requiring 30 seconds indicates these moves come from an earlier form of Judo. Many of the moves are things seen in every other Judo text, while others are unique and very cool.
I saved a copy on my desktop at work just so I could read this through a few times later.
