Learning Format
Hi everyone,I'm John Kerber. For those of you that don't know me, I lived in Japan for about a year and a half, and I've been studying Japanese ever since. So, I guess I've been studying for about 3 or 4 years now.
The plan for this thread is to learn conversational Japanese.
So, I don't plan on spending too much time on grammar or writing. But, if people want to learn that, I'll teach as much as I know.
Learning Japanese isn't difficult, every child can do it, but just like Aikido or Judo, you can't learn a language from a book or a website. It must be experienced and understood by the body. The goal is to not think consciously when speaking in Japanese. You don't want conscious "translation" by the mind. Your conscious thought will actually be in Japanese once you are fluent. But, it will take some practice to get there.
So, I encourage everyone to speak to each other in Japanese as much as possible, or to make Japanese friends.
I personally always learned the fastest from question and answer. Trying to ask a question in Japanese and then trying to understand what the reply was.
So, I thought it'd be a good way to do conversation lessons.
If you have any advice or anything specific that you want to learn, I'm open for suggestions.
