Best Defense TV Show
There's a show on Outdoor Life Network titled "Best Defense". It airs on Wednesday nights, at 7:30PM Eastern / 6:30PM Central. As a former competitive handgunner, I don't necessarily agree with a lot of the firearms handling they present. Other dojo folks and combat veterans I've talked with agree. The same can be said for some, but certainly not all, of the CQB (Close Quarters Battle) they demonstrate.
HOWEVER, there are a number of reasons the show is worth watching. They present some nice scenarios which demonstrate situational awareness and de-escalation. I think everyone can agree these are two critical ideas. A lot of folks walk through the world oblivious to what's going on around them, and these scenarios show how easily the situation can go south.
The guys in the program also demonstrate some very valid concerns related to carrying a concealed firearm, and the additional training you should be doing. Simple things, such as drawing a firearm from a seated position or from inside a vehicle, sound simple. But, if you haven't practiced... well, let's just say it isn't nearly as easy as it looks.
