Nage no kata

Nice video of Nage no Kata from the Judo Info site (2008 IJF Kata World Cup first place).

Someone wondered in class the other day... How come the Nage no Kata doesn't feature all the throws of the Gokyo no Waza?

That's probably a dumb question, really, but I guess there's a lot about the judo katas that I don't know. I've hardly ever looked at them...

i dont know for sure but my impression is that the gokyu was more of a kihon set of teaching blocks in the ciurriculum while nage no kata was a formal"demonstration of principle"
