Kore - this
Sore - that
Are - That over there.
Kono (noun) - this (noun)
Sono (noun) - that (noun)
Ano (noun) - that (noun) over there.
Kore, sore, and are are used all of the time.
Let's take a look at some example.
Kore ha okii desu. - This is big.
Kono kuruma ha okii desu. - This car is big.
Q: Sono dojo ha atarashii desu ka? - Is that dojo new?
A: Iie, sore ha furuii desu. - No, that's old.
Q: Are ha yasuii desu ka? - Is that thing over there cheap? //pointing to a car.
A: Iie, ano kuruma ha takaii desu. - No, that car over there is expensive.
