budo as perceptual warfare
heres an interesting article on budo as "perceptual warfare"
http://www.mind.sccs.chukyo-u.ac.jp/jcs ... /p2-41.htmDefinitely an interesting read. He brings up an interesting point regarding the twisting actions in normal walking versus the non-twising (same-hand same-foot) motions we find in Aikido.
Wow, this article blew my mind. It is amazing how the subtle changes can make such a huge difference. It makes me appreciate Aikido even more.
That's Amazing.
Has anyone tried this experiment at the dojo?
What happened?
I vote we recreate and expand on thee experiments.
Has anyone found more research by Mr. Kono?
Kono is a well known budo scholar who has translated alot of great stuff for Aikido Journal over the years--his series was the main reason I would buy the mag. I know little of his training background other than is presented here-- as to the expreiment, i suspect we do this type of thing already --think of doing kote taoshi with a very light touch but just continuing to change the stuctural equations on every step --or kote gaeshi with several hand changes or in jyodo this is precisely what is kicking the swordsman's butt in kuritsuke (the first trap block) when you ride them all the way to the ground
for those who liked his article --
i recently saw that Kono has some more published material avalible in book an dvd form -got to budovideo.com
