Uke vs Tori driven
I have talked with some people lately about the differences between tori driven and uke driven. I have heard about the 90:10 ratio as well from people. In rereading Nick's book lately, there seem to be references to tori extending uke in a direction. I was wondering what other peoples opinions or advice were on the subject. I think I have started doing a more tori driven style, but don't know if it goes along with the 90:10 ratio. What would be some general guides to keep from developing bad habits?

I would say that I am definitely not the authority on this subject but here's my take on it....

I would say yes that 90% of the time your not doing a whole lot except making sure your feet are in the right place and being relaxed..

but that 10% of the time occurs during a single moment it time when you actually exert a small amount of energy in order to effect the technique (or offbalance), its usually at the very last moment right before you would "throw" uke...

If your doing too much, you'll figure it out and adjust later... same with too little... I think everyone goes through it... thats how you discover the happy medium.. 😄

Thanks James. That pretty much answers my question.
