I've heard high-ranking folks say that after about 6 months (sometimes less) of studying Aikido, people can adequately defend themselves on the street. I've heard an Oklahoma City Police officer say that the really bad boys on the street that resist arrest are comparable in difficulty to say a green belt.

So, the question becomes why do we continue to study? What brought us to the dojo, and what keeps us here?

This was an interesting question we discussed this morning during Shochugeiko, and the answers were fascinating.

I'll write a bit more on the subject once I decompress from the seminar this week. I'm on information overload right now.
