Aiki Tanto at KyuRyu
Just keeping you guys up with what we are doing.

I generally dislike the tanto randori of most of the Tomiki world. So as a response we are developing a aiki tanto program down here. Basically learning to use the tanto in creation of Aiki. Our goal is to create a training system were tanto can genuinely be incorporated in randori. The tanto man/men can genuinely execute technique with the aid of the blade.

We are mostly playing blade versus blade.

We are organizing a kata that includes

6-8 techniques a man with a tanto can do while being stabbed at by another man with a tanto
4-8 techniques when your tanto hand gets grabbed
3-5 techniques when your empty hand gets grabbed and you have the tanto hand free

A couple of guiding goals we have

1. techniques should end in restraint and stripping the knife off opponent. Stripped knife must land out of uke's reach.
2. It does not matter which hand grabs (cross or mirror), or which knife grip your have
3. For the most part, most techniques can be done with any angle of attack.
4. All cuts must cause the posture of uke to break. NO simple slashes or cuts. Aiki tanto = kuzushi tanto
5. Tanto becomes a major connector to employ technique. The aiki tanto in the 6th koryu kata are simply empty hand aikido techniques done while holding a knife. I believe the knife needs to be a major connection in the employment of waza.
6. All techniques are based on motions from the walk,17 and releases to make it easy for any Tomiki man to incorporate into his movement

Ok thanks for the ramble. I thought if I wrote it here I would have to finish this research project out till it's completion before I go in my next tanjent.
