Like and don't like.


suki - like
keitai - cell phone
terebi - TV
tabemono - food
oishii - delicious
mazuii - disgusting (food)


If you wanted to say that you like something, you would say

Watashi ha (something) ga suki desu. - I like (something)

For example. BEER.

Watashi ha beer ga suki desu. - I like beer.

If you wanted to say that you don't like something, you would say.

Watashi ha (something) ga suki ja nai. - I don't like (something)

For example. Cell Phones.

Watashi ha keitai ga suki ja nai. - I don't like cell phones.**


You can ask people questions about what they like as well.

Anata ha judo ga suki desu ka? - Do you like judo?
Hai, watashi ha judo ga suki desu. - Yes I like judo.


Kare ha oishii tabemono ga suki desu ka? - Does he like tasty food?
Iie, kare ha okii terbi ga suki desu. - No, he likes big TVs.


Practice.

Ask each other some questions about what you like and don't like.
Q: Anata ha, okii kuruma ga suki desu ka?
A: Hai, okii kuruma ga suki desu.

Q: Sensei ha sore ga suki desu ka?
A: Iie, sensei ha sore ga suki ja nai desu.





**Please note: That same structure of ja nai works for any negative be verb sentence.

Watashi ha John desu. - I am John.
Watashi ha Kyle ja nai. - I am not Kyle.

To add to this a little.

If you are praising or admiring something you would use ii.

Kono empitsu ii desu ne.

I like this pencil. LOL

Although the Japanese rarely say "I love you" except in movies. You would say: Aishite imasu!
