I came across this video and there are a couple of things I like about it compared to others.


1. You can actually see the himo. (I believe that is the correct term). Black on Black doesn't work for me when comes to videos.

and

2. It deals with having an obi on underneath. Most videos I have watched the people are not wearing obi's

I also like the knot he ends up with. I know most people just take it to the sides and wrap it a couple times.

Got my new keikogi and hakama on, and I must say "I feel dead sexy" (Gotta say it in a fat bastard voice). I was a little weary of the sizing, but they seem spot on. Thumbs Up for e-bogu. Now I just need to figure out how to get out of this thing and fold it. Maybe I'll do what John does and just use a hanger.

Say, that's a pretty good one. Definitely easier to see, but I have to admit, I have never, ever ever seen white himo on a black hakama! I wonder if that was just for demonstration purposes?

Over the past few days I've tried on the hakama a few times. More so just to practice tieing the knots and folding the thing back up. I don't find it to be as bad as everyone makes it out to be. The hardest part for me is tieing the knot behind my back and keeping everything tight. But we'll see how I feel about it after the "new" wears off.

That's pretty much exactly how we tie the hakama for Iaido/Jodo, with the basic formal knot. He is talking about the "fat" wide iaido belt here. Wearing a judo belt, I make sure to tie it much tighter than I usually wear it, and flatten out the square knot as much as possible.

The white himo for video demonstration is genius.

Got practice for the first time last night wearing the hakama. Initially tied it the same way that is in the video. The knot in the back is no bueno. The first backfall was motivation enough to move the knot to the front. Maybe that's why that set of himo is so long? 💡
